  1. just finished return to oz, fabulous read. I can only imagine how dfficult it must have been leaving oz as a young man. I visited in 1989 and have never been back, but would also love to but I'm too afraid that i would miss my return journey and 'Go Outback' for the rest of my life! I especially enoyed the 'bridge' scene. Now I'm ready for Northe of Watford Gap. It's here already waiting for me to pick it up.

  3. Thanks for a clever, informative and, all round good read. I have done the Williamson Tunnels in Liverpool thanks to your suggestion, and how interesting are they ?
I have seldom enjoyed a travel book more - keep up the good work.

  6. This is the best travel book I've read since Notes From a Small Island - Bill Bryson. I loved the humour , the info and the easy pace - I've ordered Return to Oz on the strength of this one. Keep up the good work !

    Thanks,
    Robert Laidlaw.

  7. I used to live in Harrogate, and have to say you captured the essence of the town perfectly. Bettys Tea room was a favourite with my girls as they were growing up and I was transported back a decade when I read this chapter. Thank you for a great read, you've made an exiled Yorkshireman very happy.

  9. Thank you - you made my Christmas !
My wife bought me your book as a stocking filler - what a tonic. I loved the chapter on Chester, in fact, I loved all the chapters.

Thank you once again for a superb read.

  10. Great read. I lived in Durham while at Uni, and the memories of the area and its friendly people came flooding back. I agree with you, Newcastle is a fine city.

    Thanks once again.

  14. What a tonic. I can't remember when I enjoyed a travel book so much. I am based in Hertfordshire, but you made 'The North ' come alive for me. The chaptyer on Scarborough in particular was superb, so much so, that we have booked a long weekend there in September.

Once again, many thanks for a splendid read.

  15. I read Return to Oz some time ago and wondered when your new book was due - now I know. What a cracker. I particularly liked the chapter on Liverpool.
I too went on the Mersey Ferry, and that tuned stayed in my head for a week..
    Thanks for a great read.

  16. I have just finished reading Return to Oz. My husband and I spent 3 months in Australia in 2007. The memories came flooding back, we have both read it and I must say , I've never laughed and cried in a single paragraph before.
    Great read.

    Thanks once again.

  17. Loved the book. What a pity you don't write for one of the Sunday's, I really would enjoy this sort of comment on a regular basis.

    Thanks anyway,

  18. I have just bought Which Way Next for my brother but ended up reading it myself. How true your writing is, certainly if you are going to have a moan, then doing it with humour is as good a way as any.

    Thanks for an entertaining read.
